Greg McKendry is my uncle. Greg died this morning in Knoxville, Tennessee.

I am a retired U.S. Navy sailor, when I was stationed at Naval Air Station Millington, Tennessee. He would drive over from Arkansas and pick me up on a Friday and take me back to his home in Arkansas for some rest and relaxation.

Over the years he and my aunt would open their doors for me. Even when I stopped by unannounced, they would give me a place to sleep and food to eat.

At one point, I was stationed in Japan, and Uncle Greg came over for a business trip. We got together and toured parts of Tokyo together.

Last year, I retired from the United States Navy and both my aunt and uncle came to see the ceremony.

My Uncle was always there; he would be there to assist a helping hand whenever and wherever needed.

Uncle Greg, I love you and I will miss you !

Greg McKendry was a hero before yesterday's actions. He helped so many people and would give the shirt off his back to help all those that he could.
